We understand that the pandemic has made book marketing even more difficult. With the cancellation of regular school visits and the coming budget crisis most schools will be facing, how can authors continue to promote their books in this new landscape?

Our Regional Team of volunteers has been brainstorming on ways that SCBWI Eastern NY can offer marketing opportunities to authors and illustrators, help with book launches, and strengthen the connections between our members, our libraries, our local bookstores, and our community.

We have come up with a couple of starter ideas:

A new Regional website with Author and Illustrator Feature Pages–We are setting up feature pages for PAL members on our brand new regional website, which will be the first step in our Read Local Program. Other SCBWI regions have created Read Local Programs that partner with libraries and bookstores in the region to promote “Reading Local” in the same way retailers have had success with “Shop Local” campaigns.

Virtual Booths and Regional Marketing for Book Fairs, Festivals, Library and Teacher Association Conferences–For instance, the New York Library Association’s Annual Conference or the New York School Library Association Conference will have virtual booths, where we can promote Eastern NY authors directly to librarians.

Social Media–We can boost your launches and events through our regions Social media and share with the entire Eastern NY region and the larger SCBWI community. We now have regional Twitter and Instagram accounts @SCBWIEasternNY.

If you are an active SCBWI PAL member, you can register here to be included in this and future marketing opportunities.

Once you are registered, you will receive a link to a Google Form to upload the information for your PAL Feature Page on scbwieasternny.org and email announcements for all future marketing opportunities.
