This annual masterclass retreat provides attendees with a one-on-one critique with one of our faculty, group critique opportunities, and faculty-led workshops for a weekend at the beautiful Silver Bay YMCA on Lake George in the Adirondack Mountains of New York.

    

Falling Leaves is returning the spring of 2023!

Falling Leaves is by application only and we have a rotating focus each year: 2019 was Picture Books and in 2023 the focus will be on novels: YA, MG, novels in verse, and graphic novels.

This year is focused on novels, novels in verse, and graphic novels (no picture books and no non-fiction submissions).

What will you need to apply?

   *The first 20 pages of your novel or novel in verse as a Word doc (double-spaced) following SCBWI recommendations (see page 2 of the pdf under heading “Formatting Your Manuscript”)

             *For Graphic novel submissions, please upload a PDF file with this format for your “Pitch Packet”: 1 Title Page, 10 pages of finished art, and 9 pages of graphic novel script.

             *Your author bio. You can mention publishing credits or awards here, but you don’t have to. (But please include a note about what your connection is to the characters or setting or topics in your novel–for example, “I am a writer who lives with my family in the Hudson Valley, but I grew up in Florida where my novel takes place.”

              *A 1 paragraph synopsis for your novel.  (This is the plot, yes include spoilers).
             *OPTIONAL A 1 page synopsis

 

We will send out acceptance emails on April 1st along with an invoice that includes registration, room & board.
This invoice must be paid by April 12th to confirm your spot for the retreat.

Weekend Master Class Retreat with Single Room (Registration fee includes master classes, one-on-one critiques, hotel rooms for Friday and Saturday nights, and all meals from dinner Friday through lunch on Sunday.)
